Flowered lace, what and how?
Characteristics
Flowered lace is lace with cut off threads. The motifs are flowers, stems, leaves and a joining ground.
We distinct two types.
Coarse flowered lace from Brugge: is made in linen and half linnen stitches and finished off with pin after 2. Normally made from flax.
Fine flowered lace also Duchesse lace:
also made in linen and half linen stitches, but finished off with pin
after 4, combined with a gimp thread, a ring and a picot at the
outside. This type of lace is often embellished with reliëf and
different adorning grounds. Mostly made with cotton thread.
